And so it is.

And so it is.

A couple of very dear friends of mine are struggling a little bit currently, for different reasons, and as I was sitting in traffic this week, I was thinking of them. I looked up and saw

When I met Terry Devine almost 20 years ago, one of the first things that struck me about her was her style. Slim, with short-cropped red hair, wearing something really cool, she represented to me

My husband and I are preparing for a trip to Scandinavia in the next few weeks, so we’ve been researching must-see places and not-to-miss experiences. Along the way,

Autumn Fever

Autumn Fever

Am I wrong to be craving a change in season? I’m reluctant to admit it, but I’m already yearning for Autumn. I do this about the same time every . . . single . . . year. Why I torture myself like this, I don’t know, but it feels like

So many books, so little time

So many books, so little time

Like many people, I love to read. And I have to admit that I have a bit of an obsession with all things “book.” I love a good bookstore, bookcases, bookmarks, my book group, and,

In yesterday morning’s L.A. Times, there was a review of Tony Bennett’s performance over the weekend at the Hollywood Bowl. Bennett is 90! The review entitled

Slowing down to enjoy the journey

Slowing down to enjoy the journey

I’m been unemployed* for just over 6 months now. So far, so good. Really enjoying the everyday freedom, a lot. Michael and I have kept busy with our individual creative pursuits, and have been having fun taking day trips together most every week. So, it’s been good. Really good. You’re waiting for the ‘but’ here, right?

The other day, I was talking to one of my sisters and she was telling me about a blue dress that she was considering wearing to an upcoming wedding. As she was describing how the dress fit when she tried it on, she exclaimed

Embracing the beauty of our imperfections

Embracing the beauty of our imperfections

As I’m writing this, I’m sitting in my garden surrounded by beauty . . . and so much imperfection. There’s always something that’s not doing well, or is overgrown, or is needing attention of some kind . . . the list goes on and on. It is in a state of perpetual growth and

Hello Summer!

Hello Summer!

Looks like we’re off to a pretty warm Summer here in Southern California. No surprise there, so why does it always seem to sneak up on me, sartorially speaking. Yep, here I am again with little in the way of stylish, yet cool and easy items in my wardrobe. OK, I have a few basics – white jeans, linen pants, a dress or two. It’s the tops that get me down. Gotta have sleeves, but not too much. Can’t be too tight, too short, too long or too baggy.  No spaghetti straps (do they still call them spaghetti straps?), or open backs. You see the problem? At the conference in Orlando last week, there was an abundance of off-the-shoulder and cold-shoulder tops, strappy maxi dresses, ruffles galore, lots of stripes and florals. I’m a bit tired of the cold-shoulder look, and off-the-shoulder is just not for me. Ruffles? Hardly. Stripes… View Post

Are you a perennial?

Are you a perennial?

You’ve heard the term ‘millenial,’ I’m sure. Millenials are that much maligned generation that currently ranges in age from approximately 17 to 36. Demographers typically use the early 1980s as starting birth years and the mid-1990s to early 2000s as ending birth years. People within that age range are usually described

I think we all know someone who seems to have a magic touch when it comes to creating a beautiful home, hosting a lovely gathering, or just generating a certain jolliness to any event. In my world, that’s my dear friend, Brad. Brad is an interior designer extraordinaire. I first met him when he and my husband were

I’m a nester of the first degree. As much as I love to travel, home is the best place on earth to me, like most of us, I think. And I love to feather my nest. I’m always

Do you meditate? Are you one of those who’ve taken heed of all the reports about the incredible benefits that meditation brings to your life – physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually? If so, I’m impressed . . . and

Keeping it simple

Keeping it simple

Ever since January when we stopped working, my husband and I have been in an organizing flurry. Catching up on things that had fallen by the wayside, and fixing things that the house has been waiting on. Seems as soon as we stepped off the career merry-go-round, our 17-year-old house decided
